Hollingsworth Mill was the encampment from which, on Dec. 22, 1775, Major William "Danger" Thompson led a flying column of 1,300 men from this camp to confront Loyalist Capt. Patrick Cunningham at the Battle of the Great Cane Brake. In total, around 4,000 Patriot militia from North and South Carolina gathered here under the command of Colonel Richard Richardson in what would become known as the Snow Campaign.
