Rosemont Plantation is the ancestral home of the Cunningham family beginning in 1769, when Patrick Cunningham moved from Virginia to Laurens County and what would become known as Rosemont plantation. Patrick Cunningham was the wealthiest man in the county during this time, and he was also the largest slave owner, owning 40 slaves. Patrick and other Cunningham relatives would fight as Loyalists in the Revolutionary War, with Patrick serving as a Colonel. Generations later, Col. Cunningham’s granddaughter Ann Pamela Cunningham would found the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association and lead the charge to preserve Mount Vernon - the home of George Washington.

Rosemont was the first plank house in Laurens County, as opposed to a log cabin, and it took 15 years to build - construction began before the Revolutionary War, and it was not completed until after the war was over. Rosemont was also known for its extensive gardens. Unfortunately, the home burned in the 1930s. This site is owned by the Rosemont Preservation Society, and exciting developments are planned for the future.
