In the South Carolina backcountry and across the new nation, women played important - and often overlooked - roles in the American Revolution. Laodicea "Dicey" Langston was just a teenager when war arrived in Laurens County, reminding us that courage has no age requirement. Most women's stories from this era remain untold, but Dicey was among the heroines whose romanticized, and likely exaggerated, histories were told by author Elizabeth Ellett in the 1840s.
