Thank you, Laurens County 250 Committee, for sharing this great video!

Joseph Kellett worked with neighbors to construct a blockhouse and palisade fort on his land to provide a safe refuge for local pioneers and travelers. Between conflicts with Native Americans, Loyalists, and British forces, there were seven incidents noted in this area during the Revolutionary War. This fortification, located on what is now Knickerbocker Rd near Fairview Rd, served as a sister fort to Fort Lindley, and Joseph Kellett helped supply provisions to Patriot forces.

What is a blockhouse? A fort, usually built of logs and square-shaped to fend off attack from all directions - often surrounded by a ditch or other fortification. There were small windows - “loopholes” cut out of the walls to allow defenders to shoot guns and small arms in all directions.
